Gite de la Moutonnerie, Curzon in the Vendée
It has off-road parking in front of the house for 3 cars and is a well-presented old stone farmhouse. Inside, the ground floor has an open plan living and dining area, with a corner kitchen.
There is a large leather sofa and armchair, with coffee table and TV (with French free-to-air TV Channels). A Wi-Fi internet connection is available in the house. The dining table comfortably seats 6 guests and the corner kitchen has a newly fitted dishwasher and gas hob with electric oven. There is plenty of cutlery, crockery and equipment for all of your needs whilst on holiday - including kettle, toaster and Nespresso coffee maker.
To the side of the living area is a large games room with pool/billiard table, lots of board games and holiday reading (in French and English). There is also a further sofa and dining table.
Behind the dining area is a shower room and separate toilet and access to the covered terrace and private garden at the back of the property.
The covered terrace has a dining table and chairs, plus a gas plancha-style barbecue, and has grape vines hanging from the framework.
The garden is laid mostly to lawn and has a couple of sun loungers, a table tennis table and is a sun trap for most of the day. There are neighbours nearby - but none over look the garden.
One of the double bedrooms is located on the ground floor and has views to the front of the house. There are original exposed oak beams and a tiled floor.
A further two bedrooms are upstairs - one has a double bed and the other has a double bed, plus a small single bed. All bedrooms have storage cupboards and shutters to keep the rooms dark during the light summer mornings. A second shower room is also on the first floor - with shower cubicle and separate toilet.
A washing machine is located in a utility room at the back of the house.
All bedding and tea towels are provided, but please bring your own bath and beach towels.

Curzon and the Surrounding Area
The village is only 15km from the beach at La Faute sur Mer or La Tranche sur Mer - which are both bustling seaside towns with weekly markets, summer entertainment and long sandy beaches. There are lots of restaurants and souvenir shops, plus craft fairs and firework displays. Don’t forget the great ice cream parlours too!
The O’Gliss Water Park is only a 7km drive from Curzon and you can spend the whole day on the many slides, river channels, beaches and playing in the waves! There is even an area for younger children to enjoy.
The O'Fun Adventure Park is also close by and here you can fly over the trees on zip wires, ride karts through the forest, take pony rides or enjoy the many water slides.
For a more leisurely day out, there is the Jardin du Court d’Aron at St Cyr en Talmondais (less than 3km away) - great for young children - with an area for baby animals to pet, tranquil walks around the large parkland area and summer shows with a Polynesian theme.
No visit to the Vendée would be complete without a trip to the Puy du Fou Theme Park - here you will be transported back in time to the age of the Gladiators, Vikings, Knights, Musketeers and there is also a fantastic Bird of Prey show, not to mention the spectacular evening show with over a 1000 participants!
La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré are within hours’ drive - with harbour side restaurants, boutique shops, winding streets and interesting architecture. La Rochelle has lots of festivals and street entertainment every evening in summer.
Further afield is the Marais Poitevin Regional Park - with miles of canals and pretty riverside villages - a relaxing day out - punting on the rivers and exploring the ruined abbeys nearby.

Thank you so much for a wonderful stay in the gite de la Moutonnerie. We found the house comfortable and very well equipped. The beautiful garden, ping-pong table and pool table were a hit with our pre-teen and teenage daughters, although I don't think they'll turn professional anytime soon!
This was our first time in this beautiful corner of France and we loved it - the beaches are lovely.
Thanks so much for the hospitality - we hope to come back again.
Kat, Alex, Amy, Ethan & Sam. Gloucester. August 2019
We've had a wonderful stay here at your gite; the house and gardens are a great size and have been the perfect base for us to explore the local area. Our three young children have particularly enjoyed the garden and table tennis!
We also liked visiting local beaches, particularly Les Conches, and also hiring bikes to explore the coastline near La Tranche sur Mer.
Thanks also to Annette who answered our queries very promptly! Thank you for a lovely week.
The Jones Family, Sheffield. August 2019
It's been a good holiday. We visited lots of beaches (La Faute sur Mer for gentle swimming, La Tranche sur Mer for a long slope where you can walk for ages and still be in your depth, Jard sur Mer for brilliant crashing waves). Loads of the tourist offices nearby run Baludik - free treasure trails that are fab with kids. The Luçon Tourist Office will sort you out! Natur'Zoo (Mervent) was good fun, as was the Château de Talmont (even though we went on a Sunday when most things were shut - it was still open) It's worth getting the tide times leaflet as it varies quite a bit.
Bar Andre in La Rochelle has seafood to die for. The boating at Marans is fab too - we hired a motorboat.

The Williams Family, July 2018
We have had an amazing holiday, thank you for providing us with a lovely house to use as our base. Thankfully we have had 2 weeks of beautiful weather, which meant we didn’t need to make use of the great selection of games provided. Annette has been extremely helpful, always replying to our queries straight away and so was her husband who ensured we were able to keep up to date with the Tour de France!
All in all, no complaints but one small suggestion for improvement – lighter bedding would have been nice for the hot nights and white bed sheets always feel cooler.
The Simond Family, August 2018
Thoroughly enjoyed our 2 weeks here. The house has been a great base for us to explore the Vendée, although we have spent a large part of that time on the fantastic beaches close by. Les Conches was our favourite!
The house was really well equipped and comfortable. We really liked having the pool table and table tennis. As your other guests have mentioned, the only drawback being that the house was very warm some nights and lighter bedding and fans would have been great. I did email Annette about this and she brought 2 new fans the next day – brilliant! One other detail would be for some BBQ utensils as we had to improvise…
Had some great meals meals nearby – Auberge du Court d’Aron, Au Fils des Saisons, L’Ardoise Gourmande – all fantastic.
Thank you for a great holiday.
The Gorman Family, August 2018
Although the Sat Nav didn’t find the address easily and we had to ask directions with our very limited French, once we got here we were so happy with the gite. You have the most beautiful house and enclosed garden in which we felt immediately at home and relaxed. We went out every day on excursions but every evening was taken up with use of your wonderful facilities – we are now World Class ‘Ping Pong’ and Pool players!!
Although we couldn’t find the BBQ implements we still enjoyed sitting our under the vines with a glass of wine or two.
The weather was extremely hot this week and as previously mentioned either lighter bed linen or room fans would have been appreciated. However, everything else was perfect – thank you so much.
The Hughes Family, Yorkshire. July/August 2018
We have had a wonderful 2 weeks – thank you for the wine and for providing a lovely and comfortable place to stay. We’ve made good use of the outdoor space – great to have the table tennis and the patio/BBQ area. It’s been so lovely to have a mix of relaxing days here and then days out – La Rochelle and Les Sables d’Olonne highlights for day trips – and our two teenage sons (and us) had a great time at the O’Gliss Water Park. The beaches of course are also superb. We have been body boarding at Les Conches – our favourite beach. The most beautiful meal at Luçon – L’Ardoise Gourmande. The booklet has been very useful too.
Only one improvement (as per other guests) would be sheets/lighter bed linen as it has been very hot this week. Many thanks for a memorable holiday.
2018 - In response – thanks for the suggestions – the owners are looking into making some changes for 2019. 2018 was an exceptionally hot year and they now realise that they need lighter bed linens. Fans have also been provided!
