Gîte Lautrec, Nalliers in the Vendée
The gîte is set back from a quiet road in the large village of Nalliers, and the American owner, Lynn, who lives in the main house next door, is there to welcome you in and offer advice about the great places to visit and eat in the area.
Upon arriving at the gîte you go through an impressive set of large gates and have your own off-road parking. The main entrance to the gîte is on the right of the large house and is accessed via a 4 step exterior staircase.
A small terrace with table and chairs is located in front of the entrance door - a perfect spot for a glass of local wine after a long day of site-seeing.
Inside there is a cosy lounge with corner sofa and large coffee table. The large flat screen Smart TV has free-to-air French TV channels and there is a Wi-Fi connection. There are lots of books for holiday reading.
The kitchen is well-equipped with a dishwasher, ceramic hob and electric oven, kettle, toaster & coffee maker. There is a small dining table and chairs. Guests have access to a washing machine in one of the outbuildings.
The bedroom has a comfortable kingsized bed (180cm wide) and all bed linens and towels are provided. There is also a large wardrobe and chest of drawers for storage. The bedroom has views over the back garden and potager (veggie garden).
The shower room is located off the bedroom and has a corner shower cubicle, hand basin, WC and heated towel rail.
The owner has a small dog, and welcomes other small well-behaved dogs at this property. The garden in securely fenced in at the front and rear of the property.
The gardens are being worked on after the summer, so new photos will be added as the works progress.
This is the perfect place for a house-hunting base, a weekend away or a two night stop-over on your way south (or north!).

Nalliers and the Local Area
The village (of 2400 inhabitants) has a bakery, small grocery store, pharmacy, bar, pizzeria and several farms selling locally produced meats and vegetables. For other shops, both Luçon and Fontenay le Comte are only a 15 minute drive away.
The beaches are around 35-40km from Nalliers and you will be spoilt for choice - with long sandy beaches, rock pools, sand dunes and pine forests stretching along the coastline. The seaside towns of La Faute-sur-Mer and La Tranche-sur-Mer offer lots of entertainment over the summer months - but the beaches are beautiful at any time of the year!
Luçon has lots of restaurants that are open all year, and there is a beautiful park in the centre (Jardin Dumaine)
Fontenay and Luçon are great to visit on a Wednesday or Saturday morning for the local markets - where you can buy locally produced cheese, wines, fresh seafood and lots of seasonal fruit & vegetables.
The landscape is very flat in this area, so if you like to cycle, then you will have the opportunity to explore lots of pretty villages and quiet country lanes. There are miles of signposted routes to choose from.
The Marais Poitevin is only a 30 minute drive away - you can visit the ruined abbeys, punt along the canal network or eat in one of the many riverside restaurants - very relaxing.
If you are looking for a bit more adventure, then head to the O'Gliss Water Park, O'Fun Adventure Park or the Grand Park du Puy du Fou - all are less than an hour away and not to be missed for a trip to the Vendée.
The coastal town of La Rochelle is around 50 minutes away - you can wander through the covered market hall, sit in a harbour side café or take a trip on the Big Wheel for an amazing view of the town. The Ile de Ré is also nearby, so you could drive over the toll bridge and spend the day on a windswept beach, take in the local history and then taste the freshly caught mussels and oysters on sale in one of the bustling local markets.
During the summer months, the William Christie gardens in Thiré are open to the public on certain dates, and at the end of August, there is a Baroque music festival.
