La Maison en Pierre Holiday Home

Holiday Home Description

La Maison en Pierre Holiday Home is located in the village of St Juire-Champgillon, only a 5 minute drive from Sainte Hermine which has many shops, restaurants and bakeries. In the summer, the town holds several fetes and festivals, and in August the village has its famous 'Hog Roast' - with music and eating until the small hours!

The house is a high quality renovated farmhouse with five good-sized bedrooms. One large bedroom is on the ground floor - with shower room and WC nearby, so would be suitable for guests with limited mobility. The other four bedrooms are on the first floor (two with king sized beds and two with two single beds each.) Each of these bedrooms has its own en suite shower or bathroom.

The large living room has leather sofas, a TV with UK free-to-air satellite channels, DVD player and a dining table that seats up to 10 guests. The long kitchen has a double range cooker with gas hob and a large breakfast table and benches. There is a separate utility room with washing machine in the hallway. The house has Wi-Fi internet access, and a computer for your use.

The house is well-equipped for young children - with cots, stair gates, high chairs, plastic cutlery & crockery and a games room full of toys!

Outside in the courtyard, there is a selection of tables and chairs for al fresco dining and a barbecue. The courtyard is securely fenced and gated and also contains the well-equipped games room (with PS2, games, dvd library, dressing up clothes and much more!)

The heated swimming pool is 12m x 7m and is fenced off from the main garden. There is also a paddling pool for younger children. It is shaded by three large walnut trees and has many sun loungers and picnic tables for relaxing. The main garden is over 5000m² and is laid to lawns and flower beds - very pretty in Spring & Summer!

The owners live on-site, so are often on hand to offer help and advice, as well as the odd glass of home made fruit liqueur!

This house is the ideal location for family get-togethers or groups of friends holidaying together. It can be rented by itself, or with the two bedroom holiday home on the other side of the courtyard - La Vieille Maison.

St Juire and the Local Area

The pretty village of St Juire Champgillon is set in the Vendée countryside - surrounded by fields of sunflowers and wheat. In summer the village holds a weekly market on Sundays and the local restaurant - The St Georges - is open most days - serving a great set menu lunch for less than 15€ or a great à la carte menu in the evenings. The village also has a lavoir (ancient washing pool) and lots of pretty buildings to admire.

The roads and country lanes around the village are safe for cycling and walking, and there are many sign-posted walks in the area.

The Puy du Fou Theme Park is only 40 minutes away and the forests and lake at Mervent are only 20 minutes away. The lake has its own beach and waterside cafes and restaurants, along with a zoo and water park in the forest.

The beaches of the Southern Vendée are around 45 minutes away and make a great day out! You can surf and bodyboard in the big waves at Les Conches, or relax on the long flat beach at Les Sables d'Olonne. The seafood restaurants along the coast are famous for their freshly caught ingredients and all have their own special dishes.

For a great day out - the coastal town of La Rochelle is worth the drive. It has arcaded shopping streets, a lovely old market hall and so many festivals and fetes throughout the summer months. Every evening the old port area is closed to traffic, and street entertainers amuse the passers by. There is a wide selection of restaurants and harbour-side cafés where you can watch the world go by.

Thank you once again, for your superb hospitality during our stay with you at La Maison en Pierre. Your pool area, the garden, the playroom and the chickens were a massive hit with all the family. As hosts, you couldn't be more helpful and friendly. You have a fabulous set-up here and I'm sure we'll be back again.

Thank you for your hospitality and thoughtfulness throughout our stay. As 3 generations of family, the 2 houses worked perfectly and there was room for friends to join us part-way through as well. The children loved digging the vegetables up and feeding the chickens each day - and then the reward of lovely eggs! I don't think there was anything else that we could have needed in the houses. And of course, the pool - what fun we all had, and now 3 very confident children in the water. It's a lovely area, that we hadn't visited before, plenty to see and visit within easy reach - if you could leave the pool, of course! Very best wishes for the future.
P.S. I nearly forgot - the playroom, what a godsend and an absolute treasure trove!

I loved it. I loved staying in the holiday villa. I love the chickens & pool. The rest of the family enjoyed it too. I would love to come back again.

How quickly time flies when you're having fun! Our 2 weeks have flown by. We have really enjoyed our 2nd stay at La Maison en Pierre - as before, you made us feel very welcome and comfortable, in our home-from-home. The minute we walked in, we all thought it was great to be back. The kids really loved their daily visit to feed the chickens and check for eggs. The surrounding, the atmosphere, the hospitality, the pool - everything as great as we remembered. Even a few damp days couldn't ruin a stay here - it's idealic and peaceful. Thank you both again, hopefully we'll return again one day.

To Jan & Mick, I loved the pool and everything. Love Amy (6) I love the motorbike. Love from Scott (5)

Kawita, Andrew, Rupert & Edward Sharp + Paul & Tripta Schur. August 2017
Thank you so much for a fantastic base - in fact, so good, we hardly left! Lazy days, enjoying the pool and the gardens, interspersed with grand feasts a plenty - delicious! Explored the Marais en barque - beautiful. Also enjoyed exploring the lanes en velo. Thank you.

Anna, Ben, Bill, Maya & Fred Schur.
Thank you for letting us borrow your beautiful holiday house. We had a fantastic time. We enjoyed the pool and garden and had loads of fun in the playroom. It was exactly what we all needed - family fun, relaxation and games! Thank you!

Bjorn, Louisa, Eva & Oscar. August 2017
Thank you so much for your hospitality and what a truly wonderful place you have here. It has been great chatting with you and we loved your ice-cream visits to the pool. The kids have had a truly fantastic time with a great playroom, perfect pool setting and obviously, the
chickens...they have been well fed this week. Good luck with your adventures and great to meet you.

Steve, Lindy, Ellie & Jack. August 2017
We will definitely be recommending your fantastic holiday home. You have thought of everything! There is every utensil anyone could possibly need, the pool area is immaculate and the house and garden are beautiful and allowed us to enjoy some much needed R & R. It is truly the most child friendly holiday home we have ever stayed in - very safe and all the equipment we could need and they even has their very own games room! The allotment and chickens were a highlight. Thank you for being so welcoming. Best regards.
Paul, Heather & family, Galway, Ireland. May 2016
We had a brilliant holiday and the accommodation ticked all the boxes.
The place catered for everything and Jan & Mick were most helpful in making our stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible. Highly recommended.

A 9 strong family from Bristol. June 2016
Wow! This should say it all. Your holiday home caters for everyone in
A* form. Our week has been wonderful here, the house and gardens exceeded our expectations. Gwyneth says she was warm & comfortable here. Auntie Mar says 'If it's not here, we don't need it'. Little Alice & Victoria - well, the toy room, pool & bikes and the fact that they could pick strawberries and collect eggs for breakfast added to their adventures. The best holiday home visited - anywhere - by us - by far. 'Thank you so much'. from Gwyneth.

Pam & Ray, Farnham, Lorraine & Mick, Aldershot, Brenda & Rob, Alton. June 2016
Lovely restoration, very well equipped property. We all enjoyed our weeks holiday here. Shame about the rain, but it did not spoil our trips to Puy de Fou which was well worth coming for. Lovely gardens and pool area. We did not use them, due to the weather, but they look wonderful. Will certainly recommend to friends. Mick & Jan were good, and helpful with everything. Many thanks for everything.
