Vendée Holiday Cottages

La Métairie Holiday Home is situated in the small hamlet of La Jousselinière, only a 10 minute drive from Sainte Hermine, with many shops, restaurants and a weekly market. The house was totally renovated at the end of 2013 and is now laid out as a comfortable three bedroom house, with lots of original features on show - stone walls, oak beams and original wooden staircase.

You enter the house through the kitchen/dining area which is open plan and has a wood burner for the cooler winter months. The TV lounge is set to the back of the property and is next to the shower room and separate WC.

Two of the bedrooms are located on the first floor - the main bedroom having a double four-poster bed, and the second bedroom having 2 single beds. The third bedroom is on the ground floor and has a double bed. There is plenty of storage in the bedrooms.

To the rear of the house is a private seating area set in a quiet courtyard - with low tables, chairs and a barbecue, as well as an original bread oven for making pizzas, bread or brioche. You can relax here and read a book in the quiet surroundings or sip a glass of local wine.

The swimming pool is set in a walled courtyard and has several sun loungers around it, as well as a covered seating area with table and chairs. The pool is open from May until the end of September and is 9m x 4.5m, and 1.5m in depth with roman steps at one end. The courtyard has the sun on it all day, and is a great place for relaxing and sunbathing.

Behind the pool area is a large garden laid mainly to lawns, securely fenced in for the safety of your children. There is a small stream at the bottom of the garden and a wood to explore.

The house is equipped with a cot, high chair and stair gates for younger children, and outside there is private, covered, off-road parking for 2 cars. Various outdoor games are available to use.

This house is suitable for up to 6 guests and 1 baby in a cot.

The hamlet is surrounded by fields of corn and sunflowers and there are many interesting walks and cycle routes exploring the country lanes nearby. Several of the nearby villages have a restaurant or bar, and many hold fetes and markets throughout the summer months.

The 'must see' attraction for this area is the Puy du Fou Theme Park - where you will be transported back in time to the age of the Gladiators, Vikings, Medieval Knights and Musketeers. There is also a fantastic bird of prey show - with over 100 owls, vultures, eagles and buzzards! The evening is finished off with an amazing sound and light show with fireworks and over a 1000 participants. Not to be missed!

For a quieter day out, the Marais Poitevin is not too far away. There are miles of canals to punt along and many ruined abbeys to explore.

Within 20 minutes is the Mervent Forest, with its large lake - with sailing school, lakeside restaurants and trail paths through the forest - a great place for picnics.

La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré are within an hour's drive, and here you will find many restaurants serving locally caught seafood.

The beaches of the Southern Vendée are less than an hour away - and here you will be able to surf, beach comb, play in rock pools or just relax and make sand castles.

We've had a lovely couple of weeks and are leaving chilled out. Even 2 days of drizzle didn't stop us enjoying Puy du Fou, but we do wish that we'd bought their ponchos sooner!!
Kids loved the pool, Valerie and David have been gracious hosts and no one wants to go home.
Great trips out to Zoodyssée, Velorail, Zoooh! Mechanique in La Roche sur Yon, Mervent Forest (but you'll need a good map) and more.

The house is a perfect place to unwind a spend quality family time together. The beautiful house is in a peaceful setting surrounded by stunning countryside, the fields were full of sunflowers when we visited. The garden allows the children to run around, play and explore whilst the adults relax nearby. The pool is the icing on the cake. We all loved swimming, splashing and just chilling by the pool all day. The WiFi is an added bonus which is also available by the pool. The owners, David and Valerie, were the perfect hosts and were always available to answer any questions and give advice on the local area which has loads to offer. Overall it was perfect for us all thank you David and Valerie

Wonderful week, the gite is well equipped & comfortable and the pool amazing - a real hot with our children.
We have had some great days out; make sure that you visit Coulon and take a boat trip; we highly recommend the Park O’Gliss - a fantastic water park. The aquarium at La Rochelle is also worth a visit. Ensure you book online before you go to avoid the queues. David & Valerie have been very hospitable - see if you can get David to take you to the local ‘Cave’ - if you like wine - it’s an Aladdin’s Cave!! Fantastic holiday all round.

We have had a lovely week and really enjoyed our afternoon dips in the pool. We would recommend the following: O’Gliss Water Park - good for kids, but a bit pricey for what is there; Puy du Fou - A must! Can’t do it all in one day. so pick what you want to see and go for it. Mervent forest - we biked round, but loads to do for all ages. La Rochelle - very nice, but don’t go to the aquarium when its raining - the queues are awful. Marais Poitevin - you can be punted around the canals or row yourself - really enjoyed. Thank you Valerie & David and all the best.

What an amazing time! We have really enjoyed the pool and all the lovely things you have around here. The weather was brilliant and perfect for a quick dip in the pool. We loved the Puy du Fou - a theme park to the north, that we wouldn’t really describe as a theme park but more as a variety of shows. We also enjoyed going on boats at Coulon, so much that we went twice! We really enjoyed going to La Rochelle and eating pizzas by the docks (Old Port). Thank you for such a lovely visit.

This cottage has been a wonderful place to stay. The gardens surrounding the cottage are fantastic, the interior of the cottage creates a warm and comfy feel, the swimming pool is marvellous and David & Valerie are two of the kindest people I know. I’m going to miss it here!! This is a holiday I will never forget.
