Vendée Holiday Cottages

Le Petit Michelais Holiday Home is situated on the edge of St Michel en L’Herm and only 15 minutes from the beach at La Faute sur Mer and 40 minutes from La Rochelle. This modern two bedroom bungalow is an ideal base for families - with a sun terrace and 6m x 4m private heated swimming pool.

There is private off-road parking to the front of the house for two cars and you enter the house via a double patio door through to the living room.

Inside - the living room, dining area and fitted kitchen are all open plan and there is a flat screen TV with French & UK free-to-air TV channels. A dining table and chairs are next to the kitchen - which is fully equipped with an electric oven & hob and separate grill, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, kettle and Tassimo coffee maker.

There is a separate utility room to the rear of the house with a washing machine and access to the garden and the shower room.

The two bedrooms are next to each other and one has a double bed and the other has two single beds, plus a cot and highchair for younger children (When required). Both bedrooms have bedside tables, lamps and plenty of storage. The twin bedroom has access to a small sun terrace to the side of the house.

Bed linens and hand/bath/tea towels are provided, but please bring your own cot bedding and pool/beach towels.

Outside, there is a lawned area to the front of the house and an enclosed sun terrace to the side and rear. There is a patio table and chairs, along with an awning to provide some welcome shade.

The 6m x 4m heated pool is open from May until the end of September each year. There is a roll out security cover for the pool and the pool is also securely fenced off from the terrace.

Four Sun loungers are available for sunbathing.

The gîte is open all year and well-behaved dogs are welcome.

Le Petit Michelais Holiday Home is only a short walk to the centre of St Michel en l’Herm, where you will find a bakery, supermarket, tourism office, a couple of restaurants, a bar and a weekly market on Thursday mornings. There is also a ruined abbey in the centre of St Michel that dates back to the 7th Century - open to the public in summer.

The village is surrounded by flat countryside - with fields of sunflowers and wheat - and areas set aside for Wetlands, with lots of interesting migratory birds (including storks, cranes, egrets, lapwings, ibis and buzzards). During the summer months, the village holds lots of fetes and festivals - with car boot sales, musical evenings and guided walks around the Abbaye Royale.

In less than a 20 minute drive you can be sunning yourself on the long sandy beach at La Faute sur Mer, or a little further along the coast is La Tranche sur Mer - both are located in seaside towns, with bars, restaurants, entertainment in the evenings and weekly markets.

Further afield, La Rochelle is about a 40 minute drive - a great day out exploring the arched shopping streets, full of individual boutiques, or just people watching in the many harbour-side restaurants where you can eat freshly caught seafood or local delicacies. In the evenings, the harbour is pedestrianised and street entertainers amuse the passers-by. There are often firework displays and festivals here.

The Puy du Fou Theme Park is a Must-See - you will be transported back in time to the age of the Gladiators, Vikings, Musketeers, Medieval Knights and will see the best Bird of Prey show in the world with the Bal des Oiseaux Fantomes! (80 minutes away)

For a quieter day out - The Marais Poitevin has miles of canals to walk along, or to hire a boat and float by ruined abbeys and pretty villages. (an hour away)

The O'Gliss Water Park and the O'Fun Adventure Park are both only a 30 minute drive from the Le Petit Michelais Holiday Home. There is lots of fun for the whole family - with giant water slides, wave machines, a beach, river courses and much more!

Absolutely fabulous week in an outstanding house. The pool was used every day!
We hired bikes from Local Cycles in La Faute sur Mer and explored some of the routes around the village.
We visited La Rochelle & the Ile de Ré and took a boat trip out to Fort Boyard.
We also visited Puy du Fou - it is an outstanding park - the theatrical displays are spectacular.
This was our first visit to this region - we will definitely be back!

Nous avons passé une bonne semaine en famille malgré une météo capricieuse! Petit tour en bateau à Arçais, balade sur la Venise Verte (que c'est beau!), joyeusetés gustatives à la Rose Trémiére, petit plouf dans l'ocean agité…Que du bonheur! Et vive la piscine chauffée les jours de pluie. Merci pour tout.

Totalement conquis par notre semaine été 2020, nous voilà de retour pour cet été 2021 au Petit Michelais - la maison est idéalement située, fonctionnelle, très bien équipée, avec la piscine à temperature ideal.
Nous avons vue et apprécié les travaux/aménagements réalisés et c'est encore mieux!
Atlantic Wake Parc, Splash Game, à l'Aiguillon; skate parc de la Faute; balades VTT proposées par l'office du Tourisme …. on ne se lasse pas.
Aucun resto à conseiller, barbecues et pique-nique étaient le thème gastronomique de notre semaine.
Enfin, quel calme à St Michel, propice au sommeil réparateur - Bref, Top! A l'année prochaine!

Une semaine niche de très bons moments avec un soleil présent jusqu'au dernier jour. Votre gîte est très bien pensé, très agréable. Nouse avons sympathisé avec vos voisins le temps d'un échange de verre - Claude et de rosé.
Nous garderons un très bon souvenir de St Michel en l'Herm, du Marais Poitevin, du Château des Aventuriers, une superbe balade au Piquet le long de l'Yon.
Merci pour ces bons moments sans oublier la piscine….
Quelques restos vraiment sympas: Le Viand'Art à St Michel en L'Herm, Le Canoa à Longeville, La Villa (superbe vue) à Talmont.

Nous avons passé be bonnes vacances à Saint-Michel-en-l'Herm. Le gîte est confortable et très bien équipé. Nous avons particulièrement apprécié la piscine chauffée avec nos deux enfants.
La semaine fut bien occupée: nous avons visité le Marais Poitevin, le Parc des Aventuriers, l'ile de Ré et son phare des Baleines. A St Michel, la visite de l'abbaye Royale avec une guide était très sympathique.

We wanted a quiet week, so have not travelled round much - Super U ideal - not far away - otherwise village centre has most shops = good coffee in the café.
Swimming pool is excellent - ideal temperature.

We have had a lovely holiday - the weather has been great and the pool has been the focal point for us.
Love the area, having the beach so close is great. Very relaxing - away from the hectic pace of working life. Would certainly come and stay again.

Great house, everything we needed available and more. Lovely pool; the favourite place of the kids. Beautiful little beaches nearby. Some great food; we really enjoyed 'Sofie in the Kitchen' in L'Aiguillon sur Mer and 'Le Blue Mob' in La Tranche sur Mer.
La Rochelle is certainly worth a visit, L'Ile de Ré absolutely lovely to see by bike, although St Martin en Ré was very crowded (August 15th - Bank Holiday)
Certainly a holiday to remember!

We have really enjoyed our stay here. The kids (5 & 3 y/o) especially loved being in the pool!
We were quickly able to make ourselves at home and found it had everything we needed for our week stay. We were able to explore the village and we particularly liked the calm beach and kids play area of La Tranche and the main beach and town at La Faute.
The boys had fun go-karting at Vendée Kart which is only 20 minutes away in La Jonchere and we loved exploring La Rochelle and driving around the Ile de Ré.
A fantastic week that went way too fast!

Have really enjoyed staying here. Had thunderstorms on Sunday and rain on Monday, but didn't sop us having a great time.
The gite is very good, clean, tidy, well cared for.
Very nice having the swimming poo; lots of quiet beaches near to hand.

Continuous blue skies again! Great to return to St Denis du Payré and see the stork nest with 4 youngsters!
Walks skirting St Michel beautiful - turn left out the gate & head towards the lake, taking a right after the boules club.
Everything open on a Thursday - depending on time of visit shop locally and miss the Super U!
Because of a wet winter here, lots of insects!! Especially at the beach - also mosquitos - very different from last year, so returning home with a fair few bites.
Ate locally again - lunch at hotel in centre reasonable - a good place to sit & watch the world go by. Sorry to be going home & missing the fête and the Tour de France. Thank you for sharing your gite.
