Vendée Holiday Cottages

Le Vieux Café Holiday Cottage is situated in the small village of Lairoux, only 15km from the beaches of the Southern Vendée and 10 minutes from Luçon with its many shops, restaurants and pretty park in the centre. The house is set on two levels and has three bedrooms - a large master bedroom with a double bed, single bed, and cot. The other two bedrooms have two single beds each. and a 3rd single bed can be added to one of the bedrooms if required. There is a ground floor shower room and a newly installed double shower on the first floor with separate WC.

The living room has a 40 inch flat screen TV with UK & French channels, Dvd player, laptop with internet access and two new three seater leather sofas. There is an extendable dining table with 6/8 chairs and the kitchen is fully equipped with everything that you would need - including plastic cutlery & crockery for younger children.
In front of the house is a private dining area with a large table that seats 8 guests comfortably, barbecue and a couple of sun loungers.

There is a 12m x 7m heated pool with sun loungers and parasols. The large gardens are great for picnics and playing and there is a huge games room with Xbox 360, Pool Table Table Football, Ping Pong Table, board games, books, DVDs, dressing up clothes and drawing materials. (Suitable for all ages)

This holiday home can be rented individually, or with L'Ecurie (2 bedrooms) that is at the same location.

The village of Lairoux is only 15km from the fantastic beaches of the Southern Vendée. The area is great for cycling or walking through country lanes and is on the edge of the local Wetlands (Marais Communal de Lairoux), where you can see many migratory birds and other local wildlife.

There is a wide selection of activities all within 30 minutes of the house; such as The Indian Forest Adventure Park, The Chateau des Aventuriers and the Tropical Gardens at the Court d'Aron at St Cyr en Talmondais.

Further afield is the amazing Puy du Fou Theme Park - with its Gladiators, Vikings, Musketeers, Medieval Knights and Bird of Prey show. Not to be missed!

La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré are both popular tourist attractions, as is the Marais Poitevin network of canals and ruined abbeys.

We had a lovely time, very relaxed and we were fortunate with lovely weather too.
We visited the coastal towns & villages nearby but also Fontenay-le-Comte, Nantes, La Rochelle and the Ile de Ré and enjoyed them all.
Best food was in La Tranche sur Mer at Le Blue Mob.
Next to the visits, we also enjoyed quiet time at the house and lovely sunsets. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Not our first visit to Le Vieux Café, but our first winter trip ….. Still relaxing and Annette & Jason are still as wonderful as ever! The house, as ever, feels like home and so well equipped.
It’s been a pleasure walking on the beach with hats & scarves on ….very brisk!!

Like many, our original holiday plans were scuppered by COVID, but a last minute scramble brought us to Le Vieux Café following a cancellation – and we were incredibly lucky. A beautiful house in a beautiful location with such hospitable hosts. Everything you need is here, such a perfect place to unwind, but there is so much to see and do in the area too.
A week was nowhere near long enough. The house is enough to bring us back, but the long list of sites we didn’t get to see and beaches we didn’t visit almost guarantees we’ll be back.
Jason & Annette’s tips & advice are incredibly helpful, it has been great having them to hand.

PS: Le Cul de Poule in La Faute sur Mer & Coté Bistrot in La Tranche sur Mer are good places to eat (in our opinion !)

Thank you Annette and Jason for another fantastic holiday ( our 7th time here!) Lots of relaxation and time to enjoy the beautiful pool and gardens. As usual we enjoyed some lovely evenings with food and drinks and lots of laughs. We had brilliant trips out in La Rochelle, Vouvant and Fontenay Le Comte and a great afternoon on the beach near La Grière. Emily and Eva enjoyed the market in La Tranche and most importantly the Churros!! This is such a relaxing place and a home from home with everything you could ever need. I have no doubt that we will be back before long.

Huge thank you to Jason & Annette for being fab hosts. Our stay at Maison Lairoux has been great. Very well equipped house, everything you could want to make your stay enjoyable.
Children loved the pool & facilities in the games room. Garden beautiful and scenery magnificent.
We enjoyed visits to Puy du Fou which we would highly recommend. The beaches were lovely – we found some quiet beaches before La Tranche sur Mer. Mervent Zoo, O’Gliss Water Park, markets at La Faute & Port Bourgenay were great (children enjoyed). Les Sables d’Olonne – The Blokhaus – visited the WW2 hospital.
Restaurant at Lavaud – L’Aubraie – was excellent.
Enjoyed our drinks evening & thanks Jason for help with ICT.
Hope to see you both in the future – we’ve had a lovely time!!!

Another enjoyable week here at Maison Lairoux. Hosts fab, pool fab, place fab. Visited the Jardin Dumaine in Luçon as recommended by Jason. Very peaceful. The kids went swimming at La Belle Henriette – shame the tide was out.
La Faute is worth a visit – not too busy. La Tranche is also a lovely place, but busier in the lovely weather.

Annette and Jason – your place is just lovely. We found it to be ideal for our family.
Grandparents, Raewyn & George from New Zealand and our son Karl, daughter-in-law, Julia and grandsons Oliver and William from London. There is plenty to see around the area which we enjoyed – but mostly we stayed around the villa where the adults could relax around the pool and garden, and the children enjoying the pool, garden and the superb playroom full of treasures – absolutely no need to bring any toys! The gym was also used by some of us.
The Bagette Machine was a huge hit with the children – a short walk down the road. We really enjoyed our Thursday night meal and drinks with you both and the couple from the other house – great night! See you in NZ!

Thanks to Jason and Annette. We had the opportunity to spend a wonderful week here in the Vendée. You do not need really to leave the domain to have a fun day. The garden and the view itself are already beautiful and relaxing.
Another nice thing you really have to try is – when it’s dark and all the streetlights are off, you’ll see a lot of stars – it’s really impressive!!
Also, the park ‘Le Puy du Fou’ is something you have to see when you’re here.

Thank you Annette and Jason for a wonderful stay! Your generous hospitality has been so much appreciated – both by us and the dogs! The Gîte has been an excellent ‘home from home’ – well-equipped, warm and comfortable.
We have enjoyed fabulous walks on the beach at La Faute; a day out in historic La Rochelle; a beautiful sunny day on the ile de Ré – where we highly recommend St. Martin. Rollo swam like a beaver when we walked around the Lac du Finfarine and hot chocolate was a welcome ‘warm up’ at Port Bourgenay. We highly recommend the Equinoxe restaurant in La Tranche.

Très bonne location, la maison est spacieuse, propre, avec des salles de bain toutes neuves, une cuisine bien équipée. Equipements assez incroyables avec une piscine chauffée, une salle de jeu très fournie, jeux de plage, console, télé et lecteur dvd, collection impressionnante de dvd, de livres... et sans oublier la salle de sport en libre accès avec tapis de course, vélos en tout genre.... joli jardin avec une belle vue, on nous a même proposé de cueillir des poireaux du potager pour le dîner ! Nous avons été très chaleureusement accueillis par Annette et Jason très souriants et toujours prêts à répondre à nos questions, et des délicieuses spécialités nous attendaient dans la cuisine. Bref nous sommes vraiment ravis de notre séjour. (Revue sur AirBnB).
