Vendée Holiday Cottages

Le Cottage Bleu is set in the pretty hamlet of Les Voureuils, only an 18km drive to the beaches of the southern Vendée and a 10 minute drive to Luçon - with lots of shops, bakeries, bars and restaurants.

A perfect cottage for couples or family holidays to France as there is a large swimming pool (up to 29 degrees in the middle of summer!) and lots of space to run around or relax under the shade of the mature trees. Outside of the cottage is a large terrace with a dining table, chairs, parasol and barbecue - a perfect spot for al-fresco meals after a trip to one of the many local markets.

The cottage is set on one level and has a large open plan lounge / diner, plus a fully equipped kitchen. In the lounge, there are three comfy sofas and the TV has all of the French & UK Free-to-Air channels. WI-Fi is available too. For the cooler winter months there is a wood burner and a quantity of logs is provided for your use.

The two bedrooms are next to each other - one has a Kingsize bed (160cm x 190cm) and patio doors out to the terrace and the other has two single beds. There is plenty of wardrobe space in each room.

This cottage is suitable for guests with limited mobility as it is all on one level, but it is not suitable for wheelchair users as doorways may not be wide enough.

A cot and high chair can be provided for younger children.

The pool area has lots of sun loungers and comfortable chairs for relaxing in after a long day of playing on the beach. A security fence can be set up around the pool if you have small children as a safety measure.

The new owners of Le Cottage Bleu, Christophe & Clarisse, live on site and are planning lots of little renovation projects over the winter - including new efficient radiators in each room, new mattresses for the beds, bigger TV, and lots of painting and decorating. They are also very discreet, and if guests are 'at home' they never use the pool, so you will have it all to yourselves! Your hosts are French and speak some English too.

The Cottage is set in a quiet country lane, with very little passing traffic. There is private off-road parking on the property for two guest cars and the Cottage is open all year. There is a three night minimum stay from October until May, and 7 night minimum for the rest of the year (starting & ending on a Saturday)

All bed linens and towels are provided, but please bring your own pool/beach towels.

Well-behaved, family dogs are welcome in this cottage.

Lairoux is set on the edge of the Marais Poitevin Wetlands that straddle the Vendée and Charente-Maritime areas of France. There are some lovely country lanes nearby for walking or cycling - and one of the local routes takes you down to the Marais Communal - a natural flood plain that is teeming with wildlife throughout the year - so if you love birdwatching, nature walks, animal spotting or just being out in the lovely countryside, then this is the holiday cottage for you.

For guests who love Water Parks - you won't be disappointed, as the O'Gliss Water Park is only a 15 minute drive away - open in the summer months and a full day out - this shouldn't be missed! Also not to be missed is the O'Fun Adventure Park which is just a short drive away - a great day out for families & adults alike. Activities include - amusement park, water jumps, tree climbing, zip lines and many more games for children.

Head along the coast for miles and miles of sandy beaches - with La Faute sur Mer less than 20 minutes away. Many of the local beaches have won the 'Pavillon Bleu' /Blue Flag beach awards - as they are so clean and respect the local wildlife! You can choose a different beach each day - there are good ones for surfing, body-boarding, sailing, sand castles, rock pools or just relaxing in the sun.

A little further afield (1 hour away) is the Grand Parc du Puy du Fou - a fantastic day out for all the family - with Gladiators, Vikings, Birds or Prey and so much more!

You can also visit La Rochelle, the Ile de Ré, les Sables d'Olonne and Fontenay le Comte - all within an hour and perfect for street entertainment, bustling markets and lots of restaurants.

Many thanks to Pete and Hazel for making us feel so welcome and looked after. The food essentials were very welcome, as was the information on where to go and we thoroughly enjoyed the chats!
Can thoroughly recommend the Ardoise Gourmand in Luçon - delicious food and hospitality. Hotel de la Plage at La Faute sur Mer for the Moules, and lovely ice cream in La Tranche sur Mer.
Enjoyed relaxing by the pool and the peaceful garden. The cottage has everything you need and is very comfortable and homely.

Thank you so much Pete & Hazel for being such amazing hosts. We have had an amazing time at the beautiful cottage, a home from home with everything you need on hand, even in a medical emergency (wet suit rash etc..)
We have had amazing days out at Puy du Fou and Atlantic Wake Park, and spent most of our time at the wonderful beaches at Les Conches surfing. The pool is just wonderful - thank you Pete for all the constant maintenance! The gardens are so beautiful, lovely to relax in and enjoy the peace and tranquility. We all feel totally relaxed after this holiday and would recommend their beautiful home to families looking for a chilled, relaxing holiday.
Pete & Hazel are always there if you need them, but happy for you to just enjoy your holiday. Had a lovely aperitif and enjoyed learning about the local attractions & fabulous places to visit.

What can we say!! This place is absolutely terrific! So well situated and just the haven for relaxation we needed on our holiday.
Peter and Hazel could not have been more welcoming too: thank you so much for all your helpful hints and excellent hospitality. Your recommendations for places to go were spot on - particularly Puy du Fou which, despite the weather, was one of the best attractions we have seen anywhere.

We have had a lovely time. We needed a quiet, simple holiday and that was exactly what we got. Slow days by the pool reading or playing games. We had a lovely afternoon at La Tranche sur Mer, a sunny day at La Faute sur Mer and a day at O'Gliss.
Everything we needed - and more - was provided by our gracious hosts and we shared a lovely 'aperitif' with them - thank you Hazel & Peter for a lovely time.
George (10) This holiday was amazing! The house has everything we needed and some other things that were nice such as paintings, flowers, games. My favourite thing to do was to go in the pool. There were also lovely flowers. This by far was the best holiday ever! P.S: The pool is huge!

Where do we start? What a fantastic holiday! Hazel & Pete made us feel very welcome - the food essentials when we arrived were most appreciated. The villa has everything you could want & more, very homely. The pool was a big hit with all of us, expertly maintained by Pete! The Cottage Bleu 'Bible' was so useful, and Hazel & Pete were extremely helpful with local knowledge. They were both always happy to help.
We had 2 lovely meals at Hotel La Plage in La Faute sur Mer, great children's meals & delicious mussels. We had a good takeaway pizza from Mika Pizza in Luçon. Lovely beach at La Tranche sur Mer, a day at O'Gliss Water Park. Lots to do for all ages, kids had a great time - food good & reasonably priced. Get there early, gets busier after 1pm with queues.
Make sure you visit a market while you're here, interesting souvenirs & great local produce. We went to L'Aiguillon sur Mer on Friday morning.
