Vendée Holiday Cottages

Résidence des Papillons is a newly renovated holiday home set in the heart of a peaceful village, only 40km from the sandy beaches of the Southern Vendée. It has a large private garden with its own 7m x 4m heated swimming pool, plus a shady outdoor dining area.

Inside this old stone farmhouse you will find lots of original features such as exposed stone walls, wooden beams and the original stone staircase.

The large lounge/dining room has a flat screen LED TV with UK and French TV channels, a comfortable sofa and armchairs, plus a large dining table that comfortably seats up to 10 guests. Next to the lounge is a separate games room/TV lounge for your children - complete with a PS3 games console and DVD player.

The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need, including - electric and steam ovens, induction hob, microwave and a circular table and chairs for 4.A washing machine is located in a separate building along with a clothes airer.

There are 5 bedrooms in this property: there is a large ground floor double bedroom, which could be suitable for guests with limited mobility - this has its own bathroom - with shower cubicle, sink and WC. Upstairs there are a further 4 bedrooms and three further bathrooms. Two bedrooms have a double bed, one bedroom has two single beds and the final bedroom has a single bed, plus bunkbeds. There also is a cot for younger children. The house can sleep 11 guests, plus a baby in total.

Outside there is a paved terrace with a dining table, chairs and large parasol - an ideal spot for al fresco dining or relaxing with a glass of local wine. There is even a ping pong table to while away the hours!

The heated pool is open from May until the end of September each year and it has it's own security cover for the safety of your children. The pool has a 'counter-current' facility, so you can swim further! The pool is surrounded on two sides by flower borders and is set in grounds of 5000m2 - laid mainly to lawns.

There is lots of private off-road parking along the driveway to the house.

Résidence des Papillons is located in the centre of the pretty village of St Aubin la Plaine, only a 15 minute drive from the nearest motorway junction at Sainte Hermine. The village has a small bar and a takeaway pizza place. There are other villages and towns within a 5 minute drive with bakeries, supermarkets and restaurants.

The area is perfect for cycling and walking holidays - with miles of signposted routes criss-crossing the countryside nearby. The beaches are around 40 minutes away - with La Faute sur Mer and La Tranche sur Mer being the closest. There are miles of sandy beaches - perfect for making sandcastles, body boarding, surfing, birdwatching and sunbathing. The local seaside towns are packed with restaurants, souvenir shops, ice cream parlours and have lots of entertainment organised over the summer months.

The Puy du Fou Theme Park is about 50 minutes away - a fantastic day out for all of the family, or for a more relaxing day out - try the Marais Poitevin with its canal network and ruined abbeys to explore.

There is so much more to do in the area - the O'Gliss Water Park, The Château des Aventuriers Treasure trails, The Indian Forest Adventure Park and the historic town of La Rochelle - harbour side restaurants, summer markets, boats to nearby islands and lots of street entertainment.

Excellent accommodation for 6 adults and 4 children. Pool provided lots of fun and entertainment during a very hot week with many days over 30°C.
The bar tabac is very friendly and most of basic food needs and consumables available.
easy reach of beaches - La Tranche sur Mer very good and hardly any other people there- good for few cafés etc..
La Bastide restaurant in Luçon - recommend highly - good range of menu including children and vegetarian, and staff brilliant.
All in all a great half term break.

We are a family group of 10 (grandparents, children and grandchildren) who go on holiday together every summer.
This is one of the nicest houses we have stayed in over the last 12 years.
It is spacious, comfortable, well decorated with plenty of lovely bathrooms. The beds are comfy with good quality linen.
we have really enjoyed the pool and garden area. Table tennis has been noisy and competitive. Tennis on the local court was also very good fun. The local bar and shop are very convenient and welcoming. We collected our breakfast from there every morning.
Overall we had a great holiday at this beautiful house. PS: The weather was excellent.

A family of eight adults and three children. This gîte worked perfectly for us. The pool was a wonderful luxury especially as it was so hot!
We all felt so impressed with the gite and all the facilities, it's gorgeous!
There is plenty of space and lots to do. We love La Tranche sur Mer and all it has to offer. Jard sur Mer restaurants, Coulon (Venise Verte). The creperie in Luçon was lovely with lovely owners.
This has been a fantastic holiday and we hope to come back. We are a three generation group and this space meant we all had a great time.

Thank you so much for the welcome gifts. We have had an amazing week at Residence des Papillons! The 5 children in the group have enjoyed badminton, table tennis and the pool. We've visited the local Tabac to order bread and croissants, and hired the tennis courts through them too.
We enjoyed a wonderful day out on the ile de Ré, cycling, enjoying the views & shops. Visited O'Gliss Water Park - well worth a visit.
Luce, Aged 13: Firstly, I really liked the house and the pool because there was always something fun to do. Secondly, I also liked going to the beach because of the nice weather. Lastly, I really liked the water park that we went to. Ile de Ré - a must do! Make sure you pre-book bike hire!
Hugo, Aged 12: To start off I loved the pool. It was very warm the first day, but eventually it got cold. The current was also good. I liked the tennis courts and all the towns. It was all great and fun. Thank you for the treats at the start and its a lovely place. The beach Les Conches was where we hired the paddle boards and surf boards. The water park was amazing and the ile de Ré was amazing and we biked round most of the coast. The shops were also amazing and way more cheap that England. I brought lots of lovely stuff. Thank you very much!!!

Thank you very much for the welcome gifts. We have had a wonderfully relaxing two weeks in St. Aubin. The swimming pool has been perfect during the hot weather and the local people have been very friendly.
La Rochelle is definitely worth a visit, but get there early as it gets very busy after 9:30am. The best supermarket is Leclerc and there are very good bakeries in Nalliers & St Gemme. Luçon is also very quaint but shops are closed on Sunday and Monday.
Happy holiday to any other visitors.

We had a really lovely stay, we loved the house, pool and garden.
The Wednesday market at La Rochelle is definitely with a visit, but get there early as parking in La Rochelle is difficult. There is plenty to do - it's worth a whole day out!
O'Gliss Water Park is also a brilliant day out for the whole family.
Tip: The bar in the village has a small shop, the owner is very helpful. You can get the key for the tennis court in the village - it is 5€ per hour. Enjoy your stay!

I have really enjoyed staying here. The pool is lovely and so is the village. The house is beautiful and we love the big TVs everywhere.

- pizza takeaway & local bar (2 mins away), La Tranche sur Mer, Les Sables d'Olonne, Lake Chassenon, Fontenay le Comte, Indian Forest, Camping cubs le Trianon & Les Brunettes, La Faute sur Mer, Longueville sur Mer.
Everyone here is so nice and can actually speak some very good English! Everyone has had a great time in and around the pool and playing in the garden.
The house is great and we all hope that the next people that stay here enjoy it as much as we did.

We were here with 2 adults and 5 young adults, we all loved the swimming pool, the ping pong table and the kids games. We had loads of fun and got amazing tan lines. There was one day with bad weather and we spent that day inside in front of the TV, and we have nothing bad to say about that! This is a great house to stay at, very comfortable and luxurious <3
We visited Coulon (The Green Venice of France). We had a 2 hour boat trip. Highly recommend this! We had a great time!
The youngsters wanted to visit the Indian Forest! They did the water jumps on a very warm day (37°). Fantastic!
Make sure to visit La Rochelle – lots of restaurants, nice harbour.

We enjoyed staying at Residence des Papillons! It is a peaceful and quiet house/home. The kids loved the swimming pool, the adults loved the summery evenings with a nice glass of wine.
